In 2015, there were almost no solar systems in South Carolina. South Carolina now ranks 14th in the Nation for solar and boasts a wide number of local incentives.
South Carolina residents who own a solar system can claim a tax credit of 25% of the total system cost of their solar system up to a maximum of $3,500, or 50% of the taxpayer's liability for that taxable year, whichever is less. If the amount of the credit exceeds $3,500 for each facility, the taxpayer may carry forward the excess for up to ten years.
Consult your local utility to see if they offer any type of solar rebates or incentives. For example, lucky Santee Cooper power customers are eligible for a $600 per kilowatt incentive up to a maximum of 6 kilowatts. An average sized 6kW system would be $3,600!
Regardless of State, ownership of a solar system makes you eligible for the Federal Incentive Tax Credit (ITC) for up to 26% your Total System Cost for systems installed in 2022.
